About RAISEfashion
RAISEfashion was founded in July 2020, in response to the Black Lives Matter movement. As people across the world stand in solidarity to confront the systemic oppression and contemporary reality of racial injustice, we feel compelled to reflect more closely on the opportunity and responsibility of the workers in the fashion world to cultivate a more diverse industry, one that actively promotes and fosters BIPOC-owned businesses and BIPOC individuals.
We started by asking ourselves the question, how can we as individuals actively participate in this movement, using our tools and personal skillset to help others?
By coming together to share our knowledge and experiences, we can work towards dismantling the racial bias and hurdles that undermine the success and potential of many BIPOC-owned brands. In establishing this community, we hope that our diverse experiences will result in a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Internship Program
We are delighted to share that 2022 has been a year of significant progress and our internship program has become a central focus in achieving our goals. The individualized approach with personalized attention from industry experts and leading executives is one-of-a-kind. The internship program has grown to include nearly 30 students since its inception, with plans to double participation in the summer of 2023.
Designer Fellowship Program and Funding for BIPOC Brands and Designers
As an advisory, we are continuously learning and making efforts to improve our programming. To this end, we are excited to announce a more formalized Brand Fellowship Program! Participants will complete a 10-week curriculum put together by leading industry experts from within our network, including branding and vision seminars, financial literacy training and retail math classes from our financial partners, wholesale bootcamp, ecommerce training, and more. Upon completion of the curriculum, selected brands will be matched with leading mentors from throughout the industry, and given grants to help scale their businesses.
Thank you for your continued enthusiasm around our shared mission -- creating generational change is a big task, and one that may not be tackled in our lifetime. However, we are inspired by our community and hopeful that with our collective efforts, we will continue to see progress.
We are raising money and collecting tax-deductible donations with our official 501(c)(3) filing now complete in order to help fund the expansion of our programs and services.
